  • 1/2 Yellow Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Hot Sauce such as Sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • Cooked Rice, for serving
  • Sesame Seeds, for topping

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, red pepper flakes, and water.
  6. Pour the hot honey glaze over the ground beef mixture in the skillet.
  7. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and coats the beef evenly. Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
  8. Divide cooked rice among bowls.
  9. Top with the ground beef hot honey mixture.
  10. Add your desired toppings, such as sesame seeds, green onions, avocado, or a fried egg.
  11. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to control the spice level. For a richer flavor, use a higher fat content ground beef. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave. A squeeze of lime juice adds brightness to the finished dish.
