Method
- Prepare the Steak: In a bowl, combine the sliced steak with cornstarch, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, cornstarch, red pepper flakes (if using), and water. Set aside.
- Cook the Steak: Heat a large wok or skillet over high heat. Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated steak and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned but still slightly pink inside. Remove the steak from the wok and set aside.
- Cook the Vegetables: Add another tablespoon of vegetable oil to the wok. Add the garlic and ginger and stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the bell peppers, onion, broccoli, and snow peas. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Cook the Shrimp: Add the olive oil to the wok with the vegetables. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry for 30 seconds. Add the shrimp and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until pink and cooked through.
- Combine and Serve: Pour the sauce over the vegetables and shrimp. Bring to a simmer and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened. Return the steak to the wok and toss to combine. Serve immediately over rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, if desired.
Notes
For best results, slice the steak very thinly against the grain. Marinating the steak helps to tenderize it and add flavor. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp, as they can become rubbery. Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your desired level of spice. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
