Method

  1. Prepare the Steak and Shrimp: In separate bowls, marinate the steak with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, and 1 teaspoon of cornstarch. Marinate the shrimp with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, and 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch.
  2. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  3. Cook the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat. Add the steak and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. Cook the Shrimp: Add another tablespoon of vegetable oil to the wok. Add the shrimp and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until pink and cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  5. Cook the Vegetables: Add the onion, bell peppers, broccoli, and mushrooms to the wok. Stir-fry for 3-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp. Add the garlic and ginger and stir-fry for another minute.
  6. Combine and Simmer: Return the steak and shrimp to the wok. Pour the sauce over the ingredients and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and everything is heated through.
  7. Serve: Serve immediately over cooked rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality steak such as sirloin or flank steak. Ensure the wok or skillet is very hot before adding any ingredients to achieve a good sear. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook the steak and shrimp in batches if necessary. Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your desired level of spice. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave. You can substitute other vegetables such as carrots, snow peas, or bok choy.
